The Angewandte strives to make the festival and especially the guided tours more barrier-free. Therefore, this year certain program points will be simultaneously translated into sign language and a guided tour, in which the sense of sight will not have the central focus, will be offered.
We look forward to being contacted in advance if there are any specifics that need to be taken into account: angewandtefestival@uni-ak.ac.at

Statement Rector
In 2023, Angewandte will once again address the public with a diverse program at the end of the semester. Despite the difficult, uncertain times, the Angewandte Festival will bring together a series of exhibitions, final theses, and scientific and artistic programs around Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz that deal with the shaping of coexistence and our environment in a wide variety of content-related, formal, and (inter)disciplinary ways. While some political actors are currently still unsure whether everything can remain as it has always been, we are firmly convinced that the future will be, and must be, different. Instead of letting ourselves be paralyzed by rigid views, we rely on renewal, creativity and the will to change. I would therefore like to invite you to be inspired by the strength and work of our students and teachers and to take away inspiration and optimism for other possible futures at the Angewandte Festival.
Statement Festivalteam
The Angewandte Festival 2023 this year takes place for the fifth time and has become a fixed part of the University and the city. Nevertheless, it is different every year, because it is in the nature of a vibrant university to be constantly changing. Like the university itself, the festival can, may and should be different every year, because the social and artistic potential lies precisely in the openness and changeability of its processes. The Oskar Kokoschka Platz also reflects this potential for change and is being transformed temporarily each year. This year, under the aegis of Jakob Lena Knebl, it will become a tree nursery. Balled trees counter traffic with a green alternative, thereby creating a new quality of stay for the square at the center of the university's locations. As so often, the Angewandte thus has an impact beyond the outer walls of its buildings - both spatially and in terms of content. This impact will be tangible and can be experienced during the festival by the visitors - in the exhibitions of the diverse departments, in the final theses, in the guided tours and through the dense program. Change needs exchange - this is to be created during these days. We look forward to seeing you there!
