One pen, four hands. Countless possibilities. In collaborative drawing, two people share a single pen—the line becomes a space of negotiation. A play between control and letting go. Who leads—and when? Impulse meets resistance, conviction meets empathy. Not always a conversation, but always an understanding—a dance on paper. These and other experiments are part of the course “Drawing: Here & Now” by Simon Goritschnig, in which students at the University of Applied Arts Vienna explore various qualities of drawing beyond observational study. In the project “Reflex,” these experimental setups are set against observational drawing. Students draw in the cashier hall of the former Postsparkasse (georg-Coch-Platz), intuitively picking up details from architecture and space, as well as situations of coming together: conversations, movements, gazes. In this process, it becomes visible how public and social space is visually probed and explored. The focus lies on reflection—with, through, and within drawing.
