Angewandte Festival 2026
From July 1 to 4, 2026, the University of Applied Arts Vienna will present curated exhibitions, final-year projects and a diverse range of artistic and academic projects. The programme ties in with the exhibitions and demonstrates how the University of Applied Arts Vienna brings interdisciplinary ideas to society. Under the theme unfinished business, students from the Institute for Language Arts are dedicating this year’s installation at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz to a linguistic exploration and create a space that emerges through dialogue.
For your visit
In every corner of the university, exhibitions and final graduation projects from the various departments can be seen during the Angewandte Festival, accompanied by a dense programme. The festival and all programmes are freely accessible and free of charge. For some guided tours and workshops, the number of participants is limited, and advance registration at angewandtefestival.at/anmeldung is recommended. Spontaneous participation is also possible, provided places are still available.
We also recommend starting your visit at the inopoint at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz. The street is closed to car traffic and transformed into a square, a meeting place, a stage, and a place of languages and speech.
Under the theme unfinished business, students of the Institute of Language Arts dedicate this year to a linguistic exploration of what is missing: Who speaks with whom? With whom not? What worlds does the show carry? The square as a place of assembly can be static, can represent—or we keep it unfinished: a place that emerges through dialogue.

Wednesday, July 1, 4 pm
This year, the exhibitions open with the common festival opening moment, which transitions into a performative reading by the Institute of Language Arts. Afterwards, the music programme on the square starts.
After the exhibitions close at 9 pm, the programme continues on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz and in the courtyard until midnight, featuring live music, performances, readings, film screenings, and much more.

Under the theme unfinished business, students from the Institute for Language Arts are dedicating this year’s installation at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz to a linguistic exploration of what is missing: Who speaks with whom? And with whom not? What worlds sustain the show? The square,as a gathering place, can be static, representational – or we can keep it unfinished: a place that emerges through dialogue. A place of languages, of speaking.

Programme
A multidisciplinary programme complements the exhibitions and covers a variety of formats: book, discourse, film, guided tours, interventions, reading, performance, sound, games and workshops. The workshops (Werkstätten) – the places where many of the exhibited projects were created – will also be opening their doors.
Guided tours of exhibitions from various departments and of final graduation projects will be offered on every day of the festival. Each tour will focus on different aspects and will take place several times a day. The detailed tour programme will go online in mid-June.
Sign language interpretation (ÖGS) will be provided for selected programme items. Further inclusive mediation formats are also currently being developed.
'AAA Summer 26 (Angewandte Abschluss Arbeiten)
The majority of the final graduation projects will be exhibited in the university buildings as part of the festival. At the same time, the final graduation projects will be available online at aaa.dieangewandte.at. The website showcases the final graduation projects from all departments at the Angewandte and expands with every semester.
Accessibility
The Angewandte is committed to making the Angewandte Festival accessible to all and is happy to assist you during your visit. Under Accessibility, you will find information on the accessibility of the buildings. This section also lists inclusively designed event highlights, including sign language interpreting (ÖGS), guided tours in easy-to-understand language or with a focus on the sense of touch, and other inclusive options.
We recommend starting your visit at the Information Point on Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz – students are available there to welcome visitors and offer assistance if required. If you would like to plan your visit in advance, please do not hesitate to contact us at angewandte.festival@uni-ak.ac.at.
Graphic Design
HELLO! :•)
We made this for you.
Sorry about that!
The world is already absurd.
We just stopped denying.
So what if visuals refused to behave?
Refused to soothe, to resolve?
Too bright. Too loud. Too much.
We refuse to make sense.
We choose overload.
We choose contradiction.
We yearn for excess.
We made it worse.
Because we could.
There’s a dog.
Don’t worry about it.
If this annoys you, perfect!
If this confuses you, even better!
If you love it, we’re suspicious!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The visual concept was developed by Marie-Therese Blecha, Niayesh Habibian, Niki Hermkes, and Minna Rothbart, students of the Department of Design and Narrative Media, and is intended as a conscious counterpoint to conventional design
